About the School |
The Delhi Public School R.K. Puram (or DPS RKP as it is known)
was founded in 1972 by the Delhi Public School Society (DPS Society). The DPS Society is a non-profit,
non-proprietary educational body that runs over one hundred schools in India and abroad. The DPS Society
is very well known and its schools have produced many distinguished alumni. DPS RKP is one of the flagship schools of the DPS Society. The school is spread over three campuses in Vasant Vihar, East of Kailash and R.K. Puram. The Vasant Vihar and East of Kailash campuses house junior schools whereas the senior school is located on the R.K. Puram campus. The total enrollment is in excess of 9500 students. DPS RKP is known for rigorous academics. Students of the school excel in competitions for engineering and medical seats and have been doing so for decades. The school acts like a magnet for those desiring entry into science based professions. A large number of students also make it into some of the best institutions in the US and elsewhere. It is, however, not a school for those who like to take it easy. The DPS R.K. Puram campus consists of classes VI to XII only. The Junior School is split over two different campuses- one in Vasant Vihar and the other in East of Kailash. The Vasant Vihar campus- DPS Vasant Vihar (DPS VV) was established in April 1983 and is about a kilometer away from the R.K. Puram campus. DPS VV has classes from Nursery to V with the Nursery being housed in a building separate from the Junior School. Students graduate to the main R.K. Puram campus after Class V. The total enrollment in the Vasant Vihar campus exceeds 1500. The second junior school campus is at DPS East of Kailash. This is located much further away but follows the same pattern with the students attending classes at the R.K. Puram campus after Class V. |
